Unforeseen circumstances sees the Ette and myself needing to visit Port Macquarie for 3 or 4nts. Seeking advice on Accom - my prelim research throws up Rydges as best possibility given central location - any advice greatly appreciated.

Rydges is good and walking distance to everything including City Beach.

Another is the ibis styles up on the headland, downhill to the pub but uphill back to work off the dinner.

Rydges is a safe option. Maybe have a look at Observatory & Sandcastle as alternatives-they are at Town Beach which is really not far from the CBD and just around the corner from a bowling club that has been refurbished not long ago. There are also a few restaurants in that area. From what I understand there is a bit of variety in the rooms offered at Sandcastle-it is a mix of owner occupied & short rentals. Observatory has a variety of offers with varying inclusions.
There is a pretty big offering of AIRBNB if you are up for that-majority will be within 10 minutes drive from centre. Mid week things get pretty quiet pretty early
Food options have expanded greatly in the last 10years, depends on your preferences. Uber hasn't got off the ground but plenty of taxis & a few other transfer services available

Rydge is ok - but I do wonder why such a Hotel still has the showers located over the bath tub - not great for those who are not agile.

I spent my many child hood christmas holidays at Port Macquarie - only returning for funerals these days. There are a few emerging places that are good - but still a long way to go.

We just got back from Port Macquarie yesterday and stayed two nights at Macquarie Waters apartments - stayed in a large fifth floor one bedroom apartment with sea views and a recent renovation. We would happily stay there again.

Rydges is by far the most Central, but the two Mantras (Observatory and the other new one in the centre), Sandcastles and Ibis all looked good, most with sea views and none are that far.
