Hi all,

Last time I had to transit in POM (last year), the international terminal was still a giant construction zone and had no shops or anything that were open. I've got a 5 hour transit there in a couple of weeks and am trying to determine whether I should get a day room at the Gateway Hotel up the road or not. Google indicates that the international terminal renovations are completed, but are there any facilities airside (coffee shops or similar) that could be a place to waste 5 hours in transit? All I can tell is that the renovations include a new duty free store...

Anyone been through recently and able to comment?

Thanks in advance :)

The departure renovations are complete. Along with a number of duty free shops (including Prouds from Fiji) there are a couple of coffee shops. The standout for me is the Duffy outlet (a branch of the successful shop in Gordons). I wouldn't bother leaving the airport if I were in your shoes.

5 Hours at POM international sounds like a sentence rather than an experience!

I wouldn't say go to the Gateway, but what about just nipping around to Airways for lunch by the pool. That would be my choice!

Last time I went to Airways during a layover (last year), we got sneered at and copped a lot of bad attitude from the staff when we went to that poolside restaurant because we weren't actual hotel guests. Wasn't impressed. On the other hand, when I've been there as an actual hotel guest, I found it to be great.

I guess with the renovations, I was just wondering if there were now enough facilities at the airport that would keep me fed and hydrated for the duration instead. Will know in a few weeks :)

That's disappointing to hear. The only problem I've ever had, is snaffling a table beside one of those water misting fans! ;)
