I fly quite often to New Zealand on either carrier but always use my Velocity number
(I'm not a big fan of AirNZ Points  )
Recently on a leisure trip with my family to Queenstown we were denied our FF/Status Credits on the outbound flight because AirNZ claimed that flight was "not eligible for points"- despite the return leg being credited and both flights of course code shared and both on the same fare class
After some emails and groundwork by the excellent Velocity staff we were finally credited with the points, but yesterday a friend reported a similar issue with a Trans Tasman flight
The information not forthcoming from Velocity though was whether or not ALL AirNZ flights are eligible for points(obviously dependent on fare class) and if not how do we determine that prior to booking

thanks

I think the issue being determined here is how to determine what fare class your ticket is when booking, the AirNZ website doesn't always exactly make it easy to work out which ticket class you are booking - at least this is what i noticed when trying to book an NZ domestic ticket recently.

Funny you should mention that....I booked the exact same Business Saver ticket to/from NZ & ticket going to NZ is shown as D. The return ticket to AU is shown as I. Why would they be different?

On the passenger details or the seat select screen, click on the "View full itinerary" button. That will show you the fare class before you book.

Different buckets within the fare type.
