I'm sorry if this has been asked previously. I did a search and any information seemed awhile ago and things are changing rapidly.

I am Gold and plan to stay that way but with the prices that Qantas are charging for J flights to UK and USA it is becoming harder to justify staying with them unless I can find another way to get the points and SCs at a lesser price. Hence my question.

If I book a J flight on CX on CX web site to UK, will I get the same QF points and SCs as if I had booked a flight with QF on QF site. I realise that CX is one world but was just not sure if they match exactly the earned QF points and SCs.

Thanks for your replies.

You get the same basic earn rate, but you don't get a Status Bonus (only with QF or JQ if you buy a plus bundle) and CX only gives you a 25% cabin bonus for J, whereas you'd get a 50% cabin bonus for J with QF. So you'll get less points, but you still get the same number of SCs as if QF were operating those flights. Bear in mind though, that since CX don't do exactly the same routing as QF to LHR, this may make a difference with the number of SCs. Best thing to do is to calculate the QF points and SCs on the website calculator, then work out the CX points and SCs using the Airline Earning Table and Status Credit Earning Table (also on the Qantas website). There are plenty of online calculators which help you work out the miles between airports. This is the only way to make an informed decision, if status and points are a major concern.

I went with JAL last year and got about 2/3 the price of QF and they were great and got good SC

Don't expect CX to treat you the way QF does as a SG

My experience as SG on CX has been simply fantastic, upped to J once, one flight in J CNS/HKG but Mrs lime went Y she got got moved to J, another time we were given a full row of centre Y seats, also recognised as SG by chief FA. One time was off loaded in Y in HK was given $400 each on the spot, had to come back via SYD to CNS (instead of 7 hour direct flight), also given J upgrade on next booked flight within 12 months, can't fault them and their lounges in HK are excellent.
