So this is how Qantas is going to maintain its commitment to open up 2 million more reward seats. Offer more reward seats on flights that nobody wants.
People do actually want these flights, and would help with NT Tourism too.
Just because you don't want them, doesn't mean many other people feel the same.

Yes, QF are now giving us what we always wanted. 😀

First, you are wrong. November to February is low season and NT is currently struggle to attract tourists:
The Northern Territory's tourism sector is in a nosedive, with recent data showing it was the worst-performing Australian jurisdiction in both the domestic and international tourism markets in the year to June 1.

Second, do you honestly think Qantas would have opened all seats on a route that is in high demand where the company is able to fill all the seats with full fare paying customers? LOL

Feb/Mar is not an ideal time to visit Darwin but is manageable if you’re staying within the city - just have to put up with the frequent storms and possible monsoon.

It does make visiting regional areas difficult due to road conditions.

The Darwin market is struggling - many of the Qantas flights used to be widebodies (back in the 767 days) and now I don’t think there’s a single widebody route. The population of the city has shrunk due to the end of the mining boom and other industrial factors.

These flights will be useful for residents looking to fly south for a holiday.

… and the 100% humidity is over the top. On a (non-air conditioned) trip in February/March I had a pair of black leather shoes that became covered in a fine coat of white mold in one night. :(

After showering, don't bother to towel dry. The towel just moves the moisture about without mopping it up.

I know that some like that sort of weather, but I now stick to August-October for those trips. I'll be leaving those flights full of award availability to others to enjoy. :)

i used to live there. October is the worst time of year - all of the humidity and no relief (no rain). It’s called the build up. Feb is better, because at least there is relief when it rains.

The best time to visit is June - August, and to a lesser extent May and September depending on the year (season changes vary - it was a very late dry season this year).

I may have been lucky because there was minimal rain in Aug/Sep when I was last there, and usually at night. I've found February humidity to be bad, but then I'm not a humidity-lover at all.

FEM/MAR is the BEST time to visit, and yes I have and do spend a lot of time up that way.

The most amazing storms and everything is green and fresh. Amazing waterfalls and rivers flowing.
In a good wet, it can actually be quite cool at that time of year under a nice overcast sky.

Anyone whom only visits the Top End in June or July is doing themselves a massive disservice!

As a former resident I completely agree with you, I loved the wet season (especially the lack of tourists), but realistically if you were visiting Darwin for the first time I would come in the dry. There’s lots of no go areas in the wet. Hence why I said it’s not an ideal time to visit but I can completely understand why you would say that.

Sorry, but the stifling, suffocating humidity makes visiting in that period an awful experience, unless you somehow stay inside air conditioned cars and buildings 100% of the time. Omitting any discussion of the horrid comfort due to this makes your comments completely untrustworthy.

Oh haha. Untrustworthy? That is a bit stiff, I will assume you are joking....

Particular weather preferances are subject to personal opinion. The "stifling, suffocating humidity to which you refer, I have not nocicted. Yes it is humid and can be uncomfortable when outside and in a non airconditioned small plane all day, but that makes walking in to the aircon at the end of the day much more pleasant and rewarding.
Also, as I think I and others have mentioned, the November period is generally a lot worse than the true wet season which general comes after Christmas and can be quite cool on many days.

I find the short bitterly cold days for several months in the south more uncomfortable.

Anyway, if by discussing this at length, you feel will make my comments more trustworthy then happy to do so.
