Hi

I recently flew Virgin Atlantic from SYD to LHR from MEL, with a connecting VA flight from MEL to SYD. In my Velocity account, the points and status credits show up for the SYD-LHR leg. Am I able to claim for the MEL-SYD leg, or does the fact that the connecting flight was part of a Virgin Atlantic ticket mean I would not be able to?

My hunch is the latter as it would be impossible to quantify the number of points to be awarded for the connecting flight.

Also, a pleasant aside from the return trip. Upon rechecking my bags for the domestic transfer at SYD, I was given seat 18F. At the gate, I was reissued with a boarding pass for an exit row window seat. I can only observe that these seats were automatically reserved for Virgin flyers with some status (or Virgin flyers with some status transferring domestically from an international partner) as the lady in 13D was also silver.

Either way, was nice to be acknowledged in this way (just as it was great to have all four seats in the row flying back from HKG to SYD).

I had the same problem earlier this year when flying on a DL ticket to the States.

Ticket was booked as DLxx_x from MEL > SYD (and vv) but both times was given a DJ ticket with no indication of the DL flight number. I am guessing that this then means that it never gets marked as flown in the DL system (but onward flights aren't cancelled, wonder why?) therefore their SC and Points system never credit the flights. Was this similar to what happened with you?

I ended up having to call the Contact Centre many times to try and get it rectified, even more annoying was that the flights were over a month apart so had to wait even longer for the return flight to credit. In the end, one of the contact staff added the points in manually for my account but couldn't for my wife's SC's and points.

I wonder why the connecting flights are given as DJ flight numbers with no mention of the codeshared flight number. Is this standard for other airlines as well? I just assumed it was normal.

I know that my return transfer (SYD-MEL) ticket mentioned only the DJ flight number, so I assume it was the same for the MEL-SYD ticket when I checked in at MEL. Were your SCs and points for the MEL>SYD flight awarded at Delta rates, or at VA domestic rates?
