Hey guys,

I am new to the game and I am just wondering if someone can help me out with the following situation. Really hard for me to understand which way to go.

Current points:
Qatar 12,000 - Krisflyer 15,000 – Quantas 5,000 – Velocity 7,000 – Ethiad Around 15,000 by the end on Jan 2017 (travelling to Europe for Christmas) – Flybuys 25,000
I usually travel once per year to Europe and my dream is to fly first class for once in my life (Wife and I).

First thing I need to do is try to tide up the situation with all the outstanding point and maybe focus on only one program.

Second I need to open a new credit card. The old one (IngDirect) doesn`t give cashback anymore. I will need two cards (Wife and I) and we usually spend around $2000/month.

I know the situation is really complicate but I really appreciate you help.
Cheers,

If you can qualify ( and from what I understand, they don't really check) - Amex Platinum Charge Card and Platinum Edge. Plenty of referral offers on this site to increase your sign on points. Its a shame you've got Krisflyer, Velocity and Etihad. They could all have been credited to Velocity, and try and stick to the Velocity eco system ( you can redeem on Etihad, and Singapore airlines - and your flybuys can be converted to Velocity as well).
A small start ..... :-)

Where are you based? This can make a difference.
Have flown in first class on Qantas,Emirates,American, Singapore and British Airways using points/miles.
Choosing is the hard part.

What are you flight plans? Where do you normally fly? How do you plan to spend your points?

These things are important in your decisions.

Thanks Bam, Amex looks a bit expensive in terms of fees. I know, points with everyone, I have traveled few times to Europe but I have focused more on the price than points (beginner`s mistake). Need to start working smarter.

Thanks Cove, I am based in Melbourne. This is our base at the moment, so our flights are usually return to Melbourne. Wow, it looks like you have done few, lucky you :-) I`ll be happy with just one of them.

Hi Ralph, good questions. We usually fly once per year. If it`s not Europe we try domestic or something not far from Melbourne. Also happy for just 4/5 days. Planning for the next future NZ, Japan, China, Bali, Asia in general.

Points will be mainly on flights, but also hotels for our short holidays would be good!!!

Currently there are about 10 credit card sign ups with bonus points. Currently we have many signing up for the NAB 75,000 for $150. If two of you can get the 75,000 you will have 150,000 Velocity points(if you are both eligible).
Have a look at Amex Velocity next provided that sign on bonus is still running.

the NAB 75,000 velocity points / $150 offer expires tomorrow - unless it gets extended

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Give up now as on that spend per month there is absolutely no way for you to get first class to fly both of you to Europe!
If you cannot afford the CC sign on fee then you certainly won't be able to afford the first class FF points tax!!!!!

My initial observation is that you seem to have points all over the place. If they were combined into one account, you could probably get something meaningful out of them. But with small balances in so many programs, many of them will likely go to waste.

I'd be looking at consolidating your points into just two (possibly 3 at most) programs.

You don't need to credit frequent flyer points to the airline that you're flying. For example, you can earn Qantas points for flying on Qantas, Emirates or any oneworld airline, including Qatar. And you can earn Virgin Australia Velocity points for flying Virgin, Etihad or Singapore Airlines.

Thanks Guys, I will consolidate first and then look for a credit card...
hopefully one day I`ll get something out of these points :-)
