Not sure if this interests anyone but it was just announced that PNG Air will fly HGU to DJJ from January.

I've never given Jayapura much thought, but maybe another out of the way tourist spot worthy of thought or perhaps even a different option into Asia.

When I referred to a different option into Asia, I wasn't meaning the most direct or cheapest. I was meaning an alternative from the well worn track. In particular, the region has some excellent and unspoilt diving and snorkelling spots and places like Manado via POM, HGU and DJJ may be an adventure route worthy of at least some thought. Also, I'm pretty sure one can drive from Jayapura back into West Sepik so it may be an option for that (I can't fly direct into Vanimo from Hagen). Of course from Manado, one can easily connect to Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. This news certainly won't interest many, but it opens up some possibly interesting destinations (especially for me as I'm in HGU a few times every month)! As much as I'm keen to "do Europe", I also believe we have some of the most exotic and unspoilt destinations right on our doorstep and I'm exceptionally keen to experience them ... possibly more so than I am to see Europe.
