I largely agree with RichardMEL's 2 cents. But I do understand why QF don't bother too much with the F Lounge in AKL. I can't see it being upgraded. So if it comes down to leave as is or closure, I'm happier if it remains. It is a quiet sanctuary at least. I have (and will again twice in the next month, flying QF ex-Akl) use the Emirates lounge for a meal when it opens, then retire to the QF for some quiet when EK gets busy.

Agree the AKL QF lounge is nothing flash, but with AKL being nothing more than a trans-Tasman port for QF, there probably isn't really the need for a super flash F lounge. I think I read on ausbt that QF were planning an upgrade for AKL. If that was to happen, I could see it becoming something similar to SIN - one lounge for all (with perhaps some WP differentiation). There should be enough traffic at AKL for QF to justify it (QF, JQ, FJ, LA, CX, MH plus others). Hopefully AA will be there one day as well! QF also had an aggressive status match in NZ recently

And back on topic: AP, just call QF and get it clarified if you're not sure - will save headaches later! But if you are SG, you should get the soft landing to PS - so any aimless flying it just that: aimless!

I totally agree with the "SIN" lounge comcept for AKL. it doesn't even have to be THAT level (given the space) but if it's the major(?) oneworld lounge at AKL for QF/LA that it definitely needs a refresh. This is why I suggested earlier to just remove the F section and make it all J (a la SIN). Yes, I know the current smallish F section is nice and quiet and comfy, but the needs of the many...?

Interestingly, according to the oneworld lounge information/locator, CX uses the NZ lounge (unusual) and MH use the "emperor" lounge. Only LA/QF use the QF lounge. I wonder if CX (in particular) uses NZ due to the situation with the QF lounge? (this is no different though to TG using the QF lounge at PER international, or they used to when I went through there eons ago).

anyeay yes I do think the AKL lounge is up for a refresh, which is good.

EDIT: here is the ausbt article re new BNE/AKL lounges: Qantas eyes Brisbane, Auckland for new international lounges - Australian Business Traveller
