Please play nicely: wabrler mode on: F lounge New Year each year, open?

I largely agree with RichardMEL's 2 cents. But I do understand why QF don't bother too much with the F Lounge in AKL. I can't see it being upgraded. So if it comes down to leave as is or closure, I'm happier if it remains. It is a quiet sanctuary at least. I have (and will again twice in the next month, flying QF ex-Akl) use the Emirates lounge for a meal when it opens, then retire to the QF for some quiet when EK gets busy.

thanks :)

I wonder if it wouldn't be better expectation wise for QF to just get rid of the F side, and just make it all J? I don't know. I kind of see the DYKWIA types wanting a separate "First"(or WP) zone, but it really is a let down of a experience, as I have already opined about :)

I guess having been there a few times expectations are low, so I like having a quieter, separate section. The staff there I must say have always been terrific in my experience.

I've just remembered some past mention of a grace period for renewal of paid Qantas Club membership. But I think this is only for avoiding the new joining fee, ie to renew at the lower fee. I don't believe Qantas club access is available during that grace period.

There is no such grace period for QFF status level.

As a general note confusion can be avoided by stating the actually situation as well as any other assumed variations, like a grace period. As per RichardMel's post

I will just quietly enjoy my QF SG then.
Hush dog.

Seriously. Just call QFF and clarify the situation with your anniversary date, then you can be sure to which membership year your planned travels will count. It's not difficult really :)

I'm not sure that's required. My card says "expires sept2015". I'm sure the OP can read their own card and work it out. Being off topic there is no pressing need to report back here, either. Imo

Boo!!

I think Poochie should compare his online Wizz-Wheel against his Card's Anniversary date .... and then report back here how it isn't a 767!!

Regards,

BD

I only offered the suggestion since he seems unclear on the issue. Just trying to assist a fellow member. (and yes OT but well.... once the genie is out of the box...)

The AKL First Lounge isn't great but it isn't that bad either. Nice quiet area to sit and the last time I visited before a LAN flight the bacon and egg breakfast was delicious.

I will note I have only used it in the afternoon so it could well be different/better offerings at other times :)

That's a bit harsh, tho I agree they seem a bit poor compared to SYD Int J and F. The AKL lounges are older style and the F is quite small but quite comfortable.

Cheers

I take back everything I said... To multiply it by 10!
The AKL F lounge is a hole.

Yes.. because they don't have anything to do but top up the party pies and hand out tissues to disappointed travellers.

Seriously, anyone who thinks the AKL J or F lounge is okay hasn't seen the EK J Lounge at AKL which isn't even an F lounge but fantastic.
The Melbourne Emirates J lounge (Like AKL no F lounge) is better than the Qantas J lounge by a country mile, but the MEL J Lounge isn't awful, it's relatively modern and nicely furnished with lots of space and power points.

I have been told the QF MELi J lounge is not flash. BUT will test it for myself in Oct, breakfast only tho.
Will put the EK AKL J lounge to the test Christmas or NY end of this year.
All comments gratefully appreciated.

My anniversary for QF (I checked) is end Jul 15/end Jul 16/... and so on. Every end of Jul.
My QF SG and QCC card mentions exp Oct 16.
Meaning I have to make bookings to accumulate 250 QF SC from Aug 15 to Jul 16, but in that time, while I am accumulating points for QF PS (this SG was a once off), nice touch, SG ends Oct 16.
By Jul 16, I would have enough to retain QF PS till Jul 17.
And yes, I do realise that PS is nothing to write home about.
Will pay for QP via AFF later on though.

If your member year ends in Jul then your Gold card will say July. There is no gold and QC card. You have a gold card and a QC card, two cards. The date on the QC card is wrong as that membership is put on hold while you are gold due to the complimentary QC membership that comes with gold.

Would not the QC membership period be based on the day you joined or renewed and the SG card be based on the month you joined QFF? If you were SG for part of your 2014-2015 QFF membership year (and for the full 2015-16 membership year) your QC membership is frozen (for want of a better description) until SG ends (July 2016?). Then your remaining QC period should continue past October 2016.

This stuff is doing my head in :) but I agree with this.

AP how exactly did you "check"?

your QP membership is not really relevant since, as the others have mentioned, it is on hold while you have Gold (or higher). My query with QF would then be why does your newly minted QFF Gold card expire Oct 16 rather than July?

In my own case (for comparision), when I first hit Gold I had a QP Card expiring in March, my membership year for QFF (different!) ends in Aug. I received my first SG card expiring end of August as one would expect, and no new QC card (since it was on hold) since then I've never been below Gold and now have LTG so QC is irrelevant* so I should never technically get another card for the Qantas Club, despite having a year or so of membership left on it (meh).

It all seems a bit odd to my understanding of the QFF program (based on what AP is reporting, anyway)

(* - until they change the T&C of course :) )

AP does write SG and QC card. Card - singular. I suspect they're getting confused and don't realise these are completely separate.

Some might think a simple call to Qantas would remove any confusion about status expiry dates.

Personally I prefer to use the "official formula". You start with exp date of 31/12 you then add the number of days between the birthday of Artemis and the Birthday of the current CEO, then deduct the number of days between the spring equinox and your birthday. You then take the resulting date and round it forward to the next waning gibbus - your membership expiry is then the end of that month. Easy Peasey and a lot easier than spending five minutes to find out from Qantas.

I got to SG in end (after Christmas) Dec 14.
Got my SG card about end of Dec 14/Jan 15, thought that my SG would last till Dec 15.
But got my SG to Oct 16!!!
So, got to retain SG for more than 12 months.
After that, I will build up enough SC to retain PS, so don't need a soft landing.
120 SC MEL - AKL F
80 SC AKL MEL J
80 SC already booked and paid MEL - WLG
Thats 280 as it is, plus a bit of other small trips, more than enough to retain PS which I was before.
I think what others have said is that you aren't considered to have made PS but rather failed to retain SG, hence you'll soft land regardless of whether you do that flight or not.
