Absolutely. The cabin crew's first and foremost job is to save those sh*tty passengers sorry cough in an emergency so they can keep being obnoxious wherever they go. In the meantime, they also serve a mediocre meal and drinks.

There can be a benefit of contacting the airline. Most of my instances were on AS as as we travelled to the USA regularly when our son lived there. My contacts with them were considered compliments. So att least twice I was told that I got the upgrade over a higher status passenger because they always complained.

Not defending the approach of the passenger, but if it helps make more sense of the situation, I've heard this is a 'Diamond thing' on CX - having water pre-placed in the seat pocket before boarding, thus why they "normally" get it.

As a Oneworld Emerald I also got a bottle of water on my last two CX flights. In each case, there was a pillow and blanket on my seat when I boarded and then the purser came by before take-off to say hi and also bring the water.

Old mate got exactly the same treatment, but didn't want to wait 5 minutes for the water to come. He flagged down a crew member pretty much immediately after sitting down, so before the purser's welcome.

I wasn’t there @Mattg so will take your word that the person was being uncivil.

However, as someone who speaks (poorly, but fluently enough) a foreign language, I’ve learnt not to judge how a person uses English based on a small sample size. Many of those who speak English as a second language don’t get the nuances of what is pleasant and what is curt.

I too would never have a go at someone trying to speak English as a second language. However, in this case the guy was British and knew exactly what he was doing. No language barrier to speak of here.
