I managed 4 upgrades to and from Perth in December. Never via the wait list but all on the day via ringing or the lounge. Was also able to use my platinum upgrade on choice earlier in the year. Honestly domesticity Perth is the only upgrade I would ever bother with now.

Not much chance of that ever to PER ex MEL in all reality.
I got paid upgrades last year in both directions with minimal overs on the lowest possible "bid" price. Well worth it for the business space on the way over and for the recline + legroom on the red eye.

Yeah on tonight's flight I paid 255 dollars for the upgrade. Mind you not even sure it was worth that except I guess for the slightly better seat. Crew not exactly pro active and left us all upfront while.they congregated down the back (noticed that a few times). 🫣..yes I used the call button....a few times. Bar then closed up 30 minutes before landing (not even in top of decent). Not exactly inspiring!!

Compared with paying full whack for J, you're getting the J product (seat, meal, drinks) at a cutback price. Sure you don't get the SCs, but 🤷‍♂️

I find it quite poor and stopped bothering with business class. I used the choice upgrade on a flight in March so see how it goes.

There should always be a crew member in the business section, leaving for 5 - 10 minutes is OK, but they disappear for a long time.

I think we got used to the great A330 service.

I reckon it would have been smarter for VA to set the upper limit to 3 upgrade credits for a 1001+ upgrade. That would entice me to pay up for a flex fare on the return. Right now I have no reason to book anything other than a lite on the return.

Anyway ended up using this today for my partner and I on flights to OOL, all nice and easy to do. Works well, hope they extend it past March.

Once again, with the mileage restrictions, from Perth the vouchers)upgrades) incentives) are hopeless. On a choice fare to go anywhere beyond Kalgoorlie would be all 4 one way!!

The routes from Perth to Newman, Karratha and Port Hedland are under 1,000 miles one-way, and have business class service on VA.

Newman and Karratha will be A320’s most of the time so no business
FIFO routes so usually more expensive than travelling East

That's always a mileage restriction on everything, more miles more points etc.

I wouldn't call it hopeless, they've varied the feature so instead of requiring a flex fare you can use the credits on choice fares. If you don't like it or can't find a use for it that's unfortunate, but many have found a user for it, me included.

Like all perks of elite status you just have to work within the frame work.
End of the day, it's just domestic business, couple hour trip.

I get that, but I did have a look and found Boeing 737s with J available to the destinations listed in my post above. (I get that it won't be on 100% of flights, but that's also the case on certain east coast routes including BNE-CBR, BNE-ROK, etc.)

Please, it's better than having them go wasted.

I hardly ever buy flex fares - this change means that at least I'm able to get 1 upgrade instead of none.

Nah...if you don't need to travel why use all 4 jus to use them to get to MEL then have to buy a separate return? Sure if you need to travel then fine but it is not an incentive and is subject to availability. Don't rate this at all as a good Platinum incentive..(at least from PER). Easypeasy from SYD etc to have a nice weekend in OOL or somewhere just not from the West.

Nothing is a couple of hours from Perth ...well maybe Broome on a Link all Y class 320! 🫣
