Platinum (Possibly Gold?) Trick: Row 3 For Anyone!

Hi All, thought I would share a trick that I use quite often as VA Platinum. My favorite perk of being Plat is my Row 3 Window seat. Row 3 has more legroom than business class and if the girls in the lounge keep that middle seat blocked I would even prefer it to domestic business.

So basically I have found a way to book anyone, whether it be: my girlfriend, dad, mum brother next door neighbor, ANYONE in row 3 when booking flights.

Step 1. Book the flight you (or whoever you are trying to get in Row 3) in your name with your VA number attached.

Step 2. Go all the way to the seat selection Menu and choose which ever seat you want in Row 3.

Step 3. Now go BACK twice, which will return you to the Passenger info section. NOW chance this info to the person who will actually be travelling.

Step 4. Go back forward through all the options, see your seat selection is already made. Book the flight and unless receptionist in the lounge notices you will be flying with all the leg room you need!

*** MUST BE VA PLATINUM FOR THIS TO WORK (May work as VA Gold but not sure as I have not ever been Gold) ***

Have used a few times now and have never been moved, family and friends love it.

So your favourite perk of being VA Wp is to secure a row 3 seat and you tell the world how anyone can get row 3. That's very unselfish of you (although a tad dopey perhaps).

Remember there are only 6 row 3 seats and you've now made those 6 open to all who know a VA plat. Thanks heaps! :evil:

I'm not sure if I should be impressed or annoyed at your for using (and telling us) about this trick/flaw in what is the VA website, which we all know since Post-Sabre, hasn't been the greatest in the world anyway....

Doesn't work for Gold's btw; Unless your booking >T-48, but even then its a big lottery - Meh

Nice work DB, it's bad enough that FAs let their friends creep up to row 3 (or J for that matter) from the 20s and now you've publicised this trick. Hopefully this bug in the site is fixed sooner rather than later.

Actually, Row 3 specifically isn't a WP benefit, as all they offer is preferential seating within a preselected zone.

Fair point - But I would be fumming if some no-one got the seat on the other side (Or worse, the seat next to mine) in Row 3... and then started acting like a no-one, who usually aren't acquainted in the ways of flying etiquette and start acting almost a DYKWIA, but worse. Atleast with WPs/SGs, there more likely know the in's-and-out's of flying

The last time I was seated near the back of the plane on a 737, some random lady took my window seat cause "It was her first time flying" blah blah blah... I didn't take much of a fuss, but I wasn't happy with the Middle seat I had instead - Only the 2nd Middle seat I've suffered through in the past 5 years....
If the same or something similar was to happen in Row 3 because of this "trick", or anything similar..... Such a sad day it will be...

I've decided: Annoyed by this bug, hope VFF takes note and this somewhat gets fixed soon!

To everyone who is so distraught about me posting the tip, you do not have to use it, and if so many WP agree with you all then you will not have problem securing your Row 3 seat, like I have and will continue to do so. I think you should all just treat this tip as another benefit of your status, I call it priority seating for family & friends.

Why should this be a benefit to family & friends? They are not the ones that spent the time and money to fly 1000 status credits. You are. As someone who pays for my own flying, I earnt the privilege to sit there.

You're not being kind to the people who spend their own money and put their bum in a seat every week to earn platinum. In that regard you're on the side of the description in brackets.

Yep and this trick only works for you because you are one as well. In fact, your view that this is a form of platinum benefits for family and friends suggests that you are a bigger one than most around here who are happy to only benefit personally.

Actually it is a platinum benefit since only the platinum zone includes row 3.

This is an interesting post. While I am supportive of forum members helping each other out with tips and tricks, I think it's not in the spirit of the forum if they dilute any benefit from elite status members. Being a WP, I say this from a biased position, however row 3 is a benefit I greatly appreciate, and can see this being more difficult to get if this tip becomes universally used (hopefully this is a big if). I'm sure this is not what VA intends and hope that Velocity Frequent Flyer takes note and puts a fix to this loophole.

If you can get the cough VA web site to do that it should be rewarding you with a 'J' bump .......stuff row 3
