Platinum One - Worth it for 400SCs?

So, all things being equal I'll be 400SCs short of P1 at my membership anniversary - Oct 31 (~12 weeks away)
Considering that:-

• I am based in CBR (so about half of my trips are Qlink with no oppourtunity for op-ups)
• Most of my travel is in Dom Y (maybe 2 J international trips a year),
• Have 400K points to burn.
• I have easily reached the 2700SC on QF

Is it worth a final push using the points (in a Points plus Pay arrangement) to get to P1?

I note that Points plus Pay is possibly the worst way to use points, but I have no other plans for them, and I don't really want to spend anymore cash getting to P1...

400 SC's short, if you could get to the US cheaply, & do a few F flights with AA, then yeah totally worth it. But if you can't, then sadly no P1 is not worth the extra stuff around to get 400 SC's in AU.

I am also an ex-P1 and I would say it depends entirely on whether you think you'll make use of the extra benefits/perceived benefits/experiences.

Take for example the free flight simulator experience you can grab as a P1... if you used cash that'd be $1499, or purely points would set you back 92,000 points.

How many operational upgrades do you get when travelling domestic Y usually? I can tell you as a P1 my upgrades increased, sure it wasn't a huge number at the end of the membership year, but those few times I was chosen ahead of anyone else, it was a relief.

Those two points aside though, I'm not sure I'd say it was worth 400k points... you seem to be a way short of the number too.

I'd also say no - not worth the cost and inconvenience of 400 SCs. The only reason it may be worthwhile is for soft landing purposes if you don't think you'll do enough flying to retain WP in a couple of years.

I completely forgot about this 'benefit'.

From P1 you are guaranteed a soft landing to WP.

Anecdotal evidence suggests you should then have another comp year of WP. I'll find out for myself in February

After my first P1 year I dropped to WP, despite earning only enough SCs for Gold. So I got a soft landing. Whether it was because I was P1 or my 3 year average was enough, I don't know. There are other threads which go into this more.

My limit would probably be 200SCs which can be achieved quite easily by flying across the ditch in F/J.

The cost of getting 400SCs seems too high compared to the (lack of) benefits that will come with P1 status.

Sadly, instead of adding more to the programme it looks like QFF try to make P1 more valuable by devaluating WP.

As another ex-p1 I'm going to say it's probably not worthwhile either. But it depends on your flying patterns next year. I'd love to say it's worth flying 400 SC to achieve but the system simply isn't gamified properly to make it worth your while.

OP already has reached the 2700SC QF-flights requirement.

It was a published benefit on the Qantas website. I just tried looking for it and can't find it anymore though!

I think boomy is a good example of the state of affairs for P1 lately. Did you get invited to the corporate travel show in the end, or did they forget about you despite your massive amount of travel?

No invitation to any QF events for a while. This is definitely an underwhelming part of P1.

Would the partner platinum benefit be a consideration? 400 SCs to gift platinum status for a year could be a useful benefit - I guess it really depends on the OP's circumstances.

That said, I believe they've never encouraged anyone to status run for Platinum One.

Mrs Breaker is a PS, with a few domestic trips per year, no international. I'm sure she would like partner platinum, but I'm sure whe'd wouldn't mind not having it either.
As for my travel patterns in the future, domestic trips every other week, and a couple of International trips, location unknown at this point.

They have as in they sent emails offering deals like double status credits to help you achieve the next level which in my case was Platinum 1. Thus whilst not a direct, hey take a trip and make P1 it certainly enticed many people to do so.

I received emails after hitting 3600 SCs (but not met the 2700 on QF requirement) and at least one before (the extra platinum level maybe) which were encouraging of travel to make the next tier. And why shouldn't they! But far better would be to live up to the hype so on a forum like this, or through contact with others with similar travel spend potential, we'd do the selling/encouragement for Qantas.

Not sure what OP will do, but it would be 99% certain he'd get the extra 400 SCs if just a few of us P1s or ex P1s said it was a great, consistent scheme with high extra benefits/value.

The fact none of us (albeit a small sample) thinks it is worth 400 SCs over 2 months says a fair bit.

Still, I'm hopeful of some invitations, Christmas gift, some upgrades over the next year or so. And I'll start asking in a few months if nothing comes my way.

And as another ex P1 my only thing to add to this conversation is that the only way it might be worth it is, if you're not already LTG and the SCs don't go to waste in the big scheme of things.
