Hello everyone. I've searched the forums but haven't found the answers to my specific questions. Recently achieved platinum and have found it harder to get upgrades after the emirates merger presumably because of the fact less Qantas metal is flying.

My questions:

1) Flying BNE to LAX and BNE to London, are their days that are less full where as a platinum, the chances of points upgrades are higher???

2) recently I called up to book a classic award as an any seat and it finally appears the Qantas staff know what they are doing with this. One thing I found with being platinum is that they were able to get me classic award seats even when there were none available by requesting it instantly while I was on the phone (in business). I was impressed but this was on the BNE-AKL route. My question: does this also happen on flights to USA/London?? Or is it much harder. I realise these are classic awards not any seat but I basically have an unlimited supply of points and priority is to fly business not conserve points.

Sorry if my questions don't make sense but let me know if any clarification required. Thanks very much in advance for help on this :)

Btw: the personal greetings as platinum are awesome even when in economy. Not just a greeting but an actual conversation and makes you feel very wanted as a premium guest.

As you rise through the levels the likelihood they can 'release' seats for you is increased, but isn't guaranteed. Good to hear you've had success, but this may not always be the case.

Having a subscription to something like Expert Flyer can help, as you can see how many seats are left in different fare buckets, giving you an idea of what they might release.

The other thing to keep in mind is the day of the week. I may be corrected by other more knowledgable members but I understand Tuesday is the day with fewer premium seats occupied.

I didn't answer that as I don't know, but have booked a flight for a Tuesday in June :D

Was there no classic award seats available BNE-AKL on the EK A380? Because whatever QF uses on the same route will be no match. No way am I going to fly on QF metal across the tasman unless it's a JASA.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
