First time I put it down to the fact that I was flying with Singapore, and maybe they hadn't got the status update.

But I just checked in from OOL to SYD and got told the same thing. He checked on system and said it definitely says I was Gold. Asked at the lounge and they said that was odd.

Any ideas?

Velocity runs on a separate system to the reservations management system. Virgin only asks Velocity for your status when your number is applied to a booking and Velocity can't/doesn't push your status out to the airline when it changes (because, after all, Velocity doesn't necessarily know about all your bookings, especially those on airlines other than DJ).

Generally the situation can be quickly resolved by calling up the airline and asking for your Velocity number to be cleared from the booking, then reapplied. The reservations system will then ask Velocity for your new status, and it will tell them that you're Platinum. I've struck the issue myself, flying both DJ and NZ shortly after upgrading to platinum. In the case of the DJ booking the checkin agent reapplied my number and it bought through the correct status, in the case of NZ I called up.

A bit like your AFF profile - you've probably made quite a few posts since turning platinum but because you haven't updated your profile with your new status, it still says you're Velocity Gold :p.

For what it's worth, the "problem" can also manifest itself in reverse - advance bookings made when you are platinum will retain a platinum status even if you slip to Gold.

This may be a limitation of how the DJ system links with the SQ system. I have had the same thing when travelling with NZ. DJ gold is the highest DJ status that shows in their system.

I have been assured that the introduction of 'sabre' will sort this out.
