AFFers,
I have a domestic work trip coming up and will be travelling in company with some colleagues. I understand that I can access the Business lounge post flight and guest two of them for a "meeting". We will all be travelling fairly heavy, so I was wondering what happens to our checked baggage? Do we collect it and leave it for the lounge dragons to mind it or is there a temporary storage available at the baggage counter?
TIA.

Depends on the airport. My first hand experience is:

Baggage services in Canberra diligently collect any unclaimed bags after about 5 minutes on the belt, just present your boarding pass to collect.
Baggage services in Sydney just lets them go round and round on the belt - the staff are nearly always preoccupied with lost/damaged bag claims.

At most airports you wouldn't be able to collect and bring it back to the lounge unless it will fit through the security scanners (and not contain any prohibited items).

The one exception which comes to mind is ADL where the lounge is located prior to security I believe. Scratch that, there is security before the ADL lounge, there's just another round for international departures.

Does anyone have any recent experience of baggage storage at SYD T3? I'd rather not let my suitcase go round and round for a couple of hours. I was going to carry a knife would rule out putting it through security but if I can't find an alternative I guess I'll pack differently.

I once went to the lounge in Sydney on arrival and when I went to collect my luggage it was with luggage services who were concerned at non-collection.
They advised me that, in future, I should ask the lounge desk to call down and inform them that I will be late collecting my luggage.
They are quite happy to keep it once they have an explanation for the delay in collection.
When I followed this advice the lounge desk staff thought it was very strange and unnecessary but I persisted and they did call down.
All went smoothly after that.
I guess lounge desk staff don't talk to baggage services staff, but that's not so surprising.
Airlines can be very snobby places to work, cabin crew don't really talk to ground services staff.

I was actually informed of the same in Perth once. I might take this approach. The storage facility justinbrett referred to wants $12 per item up to four hours, $14 for up to eight hours and $17 for 24 hours.

Good info, thanks team. Will come in handy on my next trip.
For the record, they actually lost my bags so in the end I didn't have to worry about it. 🙃

Great to know. I've always wondered what happens to one's checked baggage if availing of the lounge-on-arrival benefit.
