Folks

Thanks to the insight of so many people on this forum I'm about to move from humble Bronze, jumping Silver and landing on Gold by Sep 8

3rd Oct I'm off with Mrs Paddy to US and while there will spend a couple of days on a SC run that should have me Plat by 16th Oct for the very first time.

Read where it can take time for AA SC credits to come through so when I rock up to the QF First Class checkin at JFK on 24th Oct to checkin on QF108 on a humble O class fare will I be:

  • Told to bugger off to another queue as they won't believe I've gone Plat without the system telling them,
  • Allowed to access the BA Terraces lounge... which will be a mighty good thing as I'll be arriving from BOS on an AA flight early afternoon
  • be offered upgrades as a freshly minted Plat?

Opinions appreciated
Paddy

Hi paddy

Taking your things one at time:

1) If the AA flights have not credited then you will remain at gold status. you will not be entitled to use the F class check-in. (Nothing to stop you trying to use it - just you are not entitled until you actually get platinum status, or are flying first class)

2) As you will be gold anyway you will have access to the lounge. You don't need to be plat for that. (Being plat however will get you First class rather than business class lounges.)

3) upgrades seem to be fairly common these days. Then higher your status the better chance you have (supposedly). Your status will be determined by the number of SCs in your account. So if the AA flights credit, you will be that little bit higher up the list :) If not then gold it is.

Despite all of the above - 6 days is well and truly long enough for AA flights to credit. You do need tomake sure your QF number appears on your AA boarding pass. If it doesn't then you'll have to manually apply for the credits and that can take time (having the request in won't give you plat benefits).

So given 6 days will be enough time then your account will show 'Platinum' and all you need to do - if asked - is to show your gold card and say you are now waiting for your new card. No one will have a problem with that as the system will show your newly updated status.

Enjoy!
