Planning a short stop in Adelaide, before joining the Ghan.
We though maybe a couple of days staying in a wine region. Trying to decide which region. We visited the Barossa region 10 years ago and loved it, so not sure whether to go back there or another region? I have been looking at McLaren Vale also.

Looking for suggestions please. @VPS tagging you also

Happy to help. McLaren Vale or Adelaide Hills are options. What sort of accommodation are you looking for?

It doesn't have to be too flash. I had a bit of a look this afternoon. There are a few B&B or cottage style places that looked nice. Or a hotel? not sure as yet. Just really somewhere to use as a base. We will hire a car from the airport I think.

IMHO, Clare Valley is the most beautiful of the Adelaide wine regions. A little further away, but worth it.
Hmm I hadn't even thought of the Clare valley. I will take a look.

Clare is good and Auburn is a lovely little town to stay in with a great restaurant. It’s less than 2 hours from the airport with the new northern expressway

I think we would probably like to stay somewhere a little closer to Adelaide, so I think we will have to put the Clare Valley on the list for a longer stay.
Probably McLaren Vale is looking good.

Accommodation recommendations?

Can’t recommend any accommodation but have a look at Willunga. It’s small and nicer than McLaren Vale and lots of nice cafes. Farmers market too depending on what day you’re there

Hey Adelaideians?

Not OT cause I am enjoying a short stay in ADL and I need a steak restaurant to take my new State Rep to tonight - if Gauchos no longer the ‘go to’ any clues on what is please?

And Italian for tomorrow night please? Am stumped up at Hilton not that that makes much diff 👍

Personally never thought Gauchos was the go to but hard to recommend any 'steak' restaurants rather there are good steaks at particular restaurants (Africola has a good eye fillet atm).

Italian - Fugazzi on Leigh St or Osteria Oggi on Pirie St are both not far from the Hilton. Bookings essential.

Garcon Bleu is close by and good food. Home | Garçon Bleu | French Restaurant Adelaide

I doubt you'd get into Fugazzi tonight but you might

Press* Food & Wine Haven't been here since the new owners took over.

Good luck

Let us know where you end up and if you're really stuck message me because I have more suggestions that are not CBD

Meat & Wine Co on Currie St is our go to for steaks and we have always had a great feed there. For Italian apart from the usual suspects mentioned we often go to a little place on Market St called Lot 10 Cucina. It’s only small and appearance wise it doesn’t have that glitzy, first class feel to it but the owners are absolutely wonderful and make you feel right at home as well as preparing some sensational home made Italian food that is top notch IMO. We usually have to “roll“ out of the place as we have eaten som much 🤣
Both are in very close proximity to the Hilton

I recall a competition where the 1st prize was a short stay in Adelaide. The 2nd prize was a long stay in Adelaide
Amen for second prizes!
those of us who have lived here long term, know the secrets of good Radelaide living
