Plane's landing gear fails, sparking emergency at Newcastle airport

A light plane is circling above Newcastle airport at Williamtown ahead of what will be an emergency landing.

Police have told the ABC the plane's landing gear has failed.

It has been circling above the airport for at least two hours burning off fuel and was now expected to make a hard landing around 12.30pm.
