Hi All

Received the dreaded message from QF about flight changes... QF648 has been downgraded from A330 to 777. Used points to book J which sucks. Looked at booking a few days earlier but nothing this close to departure. Even more frustrating, the majority of the A330 flights out that day are still A330.

Any chance this flight gets changed back to A330?

Yes 737. The mistake was likely caused from smashing the keyboard while typing.

I assume you mean 737. As to the chances, it is anyone's guess currently.
Thanks Mannej. The reason I asked is I've read plenty of plane downgrades on the forum but can't recall reading switches back to the A330.

It happened to me just last week:

Thanks AIRwin... hope your flight turned out ok.

Fingers crossed A330 to 737 back to A330 is possible.

Happened to me many years ago, first flight of the day, QFd SYD - MEL.
Years ago now, when they were phasing out their 767s.
Got to gate facing the maintenance hanger my flight was to depart from, and saw a 737 waiting there, sad face.
But went to the service counter, yes, they had them at that time, and got changed to a later flight on the 767 (olden days now).
And also, about 3/4 years ago, I had to change flights 3 times to get a 330 MEL - SYD in J, they kept doing equipment swaps, phoned 13xx_x up 3 times to change, and after each change, the 330 flight I was booked on changed again to a 737.
In the end, on 3rd go, I got my wish.
Not that QF has that many wide bodied planes on their dom side, not like their 767 days of the 1980s/1990s, when we had a of them in the QF fleet,

Actually my OP was slightly incorrect. The old flight is was 652 and this is no longer flying. They've shifted us to QF648 which I think was the closest time. As they've shifted me to another flight can I call up (I can hear you laughing now) and request a slightly earlier flight which would be an A330.

Never done this so not sure if it possible and complicating things is I have 3 J rewards and i can't see any availability on the A330. I'm guessing I'll have to sit tight and hope for a plane change back but thought I'd ask some experienced heads on this one.

Thanks

You can always ring up, unless you are a WP/P1, you will get the dreaded "your call is very important to us, due to covid, our customer support officers are with other customers, your estimated wait time is 2 hours, we provide the opportunity for a call back, for yes, press 1, or please hold and a customer support officer will..."
Or just accept the J on the 737, and call it quits after that.
Is it worth it to wait on hold with their music for 2 hours, or wait and hope for them to call you back?
Meaning you have to put your life on hold, and hope they do indeed will call you back.
