A KLM flight headed for Hyderabad in India's south skipped its destination and flew across India because the pilot was unaware the city had a brand-new airport, a report said today.

The confusion occurred barely hours after the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the Hyderabad suburb of Shamshabad became operational after midnight on Saturday, with flights landing and taking off, said the Times of India.

I wonder if the passengers got extra FF miles for the extra distance travelled. :p

Seriously though, he's lucky he had enough fuel to be doing all that extra flying around.

That's why they carry 'fuel reserves' :!:

KLM is not really a great airline (old planes, no skybeds in J, average lounges - nice liqour bottles in J :)) - even when flying a lot from AMS most of the times tried to avoid them. Then again not sure what the exact circumstances are here..........

No AVOD on whY ! sorry, no AV period on one 747 flying AMS-SIN so reported a passnager i sat next to a month or so ago.
