Pickpocketed in Bangkok: by Qantas

In this case the OP had used an TA, albeit via the conference organiser. They were unable to get hold of them. So it wouldn’t have helped in this case..l although this is a bit of a niche situation!
I read the OP that the Qantas agent simply offered to fix things there and then so the conference organiser’s travel agent wasn’t asked or contacted. And that was the start of the problems.

But say, even if somehow I did get a duplicate ticket issued on my travels and I was charged twice, for me it would’ve been the travel agents time to get it sorted, not mine and, having direct contact with, in this instance the Qantas organisation, I think it would’ve been resolved much quicker.

But yes, a niche situation if you are obliged to use a conference organisers travel agent. But I would moved heaven and not to do that but to always book through my own travel agent. 24/seven help right there and then and any of my problems becomes their problem until it’s solved.
