I have a J ticket booked through PR for Australia to Saudi Arabia return, at the end of the year. SYD-MNL-RUH-MED / DMM-RUH-MNL-SYD. The four long haul flights are on PR and the domestic flights within Saudi Arabia are on Saudia, but with PR codeshare flight numbers.
I’ve had the ticket booked for a couple of months now and have already received a couple of time change notifications, for minor changes to some of the flights.
Today I received another change, but this one came in the form of an email with a link to the PR home page for me to either accept changes or to review the booking for change options. Again it’s only a minor change of about an hour that doesn’t materially change the ticket. After going to the manage booking page and submitting my booking details it brings up current flights and then a number of alternatives if I don’t accept the changes.
The alternatives appear far too good to be real.
Has anyone had this happen with PR recently, or indeed ever?
Before giving examples of the change options, I would also note that on the outbound leg I currently have 18 hours overnight for the transit in MNL, so will be booking a hotel. (PR no longer offer STPC hotels like they used to) The current flights also get me into MED after 11pm so not a problem but not ideal.
Options; I can accept the timing change, or:
1. Take an SV B777 for the long haul from MNL to JED and then connect domestically to MED. No overnight in MNL and now arrive mid morning.
2. Take a QR B787 for the long haul from MNL to DOH, then a QR narrow body to MED. No overnight in MNL and now arrive at midday. But the DOH-MED flight is downgraded to Y. Both flights on QR codes so I’d be able to credit them somewhere useful.
3. Similar via MCT with WY arriving late afternoon.
4. Similar via AUH with EY although a Wamos jet MNL-AUH and no downgrade on the intra-Middle East leg. Arriving late afternoon.
Now the really interesting one…
5. Take a TK B777 to IST and then a narrow body back to MED. Both legs on TK code so I should be able to credit to my TK account.
Arrive just after lunchtime.
There are a couple of other random choices such as PR to CGK (J recliner overnight) then SV or GA from there direct to MED and similar via KUL then MH. No thanks.
This looks like a very simple choice: go TK.
Anyone think differently? Can this even be real???
Airlines don’t run charities.
