A 3-4-3 economy config should only be on an A380 or B777.

It belongs nowhere near an A350 / B787 or smaller, regardless of demographic. Massive fail by Philippine Airlines IMO.

The a350 is wider than the 777!!

I almost booked a ticket on Philippine Airlines the other day, flying on an A330 within Asia. Then got to the seat selection page, realised it was a 3-3-3 layout and decided instead to book CX.

My bad, I thought the new 350a were slightly wider .

Still, 10 abreast in a 777 is incredibly uncomfortable. It was only designed for 9 across.

I agree - but at the end of the day for most airlines it's all about making a profit at the expense of passengers' comfort.

There's no other justification (the argument of overall smaller passengers is BS IMO) to squeeze in a 10th seat per row on an A350, other than to make more money.

JAL on the other hand, are 8 abreast on the 787s (2-4-2) whereas virtually all other carriers are 3-3-3.

Absolutely agree that it’s a horrible config but airlines don’t care about passenger comfort and PR would be catering for their local population
