Pets in the Cabin - Coming soon on Virgin Australia

Animal and container under 8 kilos and must fit under the seat. Does such a thing exist?
They do. Our fully-grown cat is only 6.5kg.

The carriers for the cabin are not the hard plastic ones were familiar with for the hold. They’re mesh and fabric, like a backpack. Very light.

I'm a bit surprised at the cost, which may or may not be good value compared to the cost of a kennel/cat house(?) depending on the duration.

There's a million reasons why one would travel with a pet but one of the more common ones would be a holiday/trip away. The pet owners would also need to carefully consider land travel arrangements. Pets are banned from hire cars and would require forward planning for taxis/uber. Similarly, accommodation would also require careful selection.

Who's going to be the first to report being on a flight with a pet? If pets are in Row 18 and beyond, most here won't even notice there's one on board (anti-social/disruptive behaviour excluded), until they venture from Rows 3-5 down to the back loos.

In Melbourne cat boarding is upwards of $30-50 a night, dog boarding upwards of $50-80 a night.

If you were going away on a camping holiday or going to visit family, taking the pooch with you might be quite cost effective!

Looking forward to seeing the escaping pets at the security lane as the owner holds the pet whilst the pets carry on bag is scanned. Will be hilarious to see a pet escape through the security checkpoint whilst owner is stuck on the other side.

I think you'll be disappointed waiting to see this happen.
