Signed one of my (six) cats up today for the insurance. I figured if we want to do the others, we can get the extra points, but mainly they're too young to need it. Since they're all indoor cats (it's a big house, thank god!), the "accident only" cover wasn't really useful, so I opted for the $13/fn "accident and illness" cover for our second eldest (he's 8). Unfortunately they don't cover cats over 9 for more than accident cover, so our 10-year-old girl won't be getting cover.

I also delayed the premium until later in the month when we'll be getting our Qantas/Woolies credit card so we can get the extra points - at the moment I just DD'd it from our bank account.

It seemed fairly on par with other insurance premiums I've seen; I didn't active the current reward option of 5% off premiums because, really, it's only a saving of $24 or so a year, whereas we get that much in cash via the giftcard and then the bonus points on top.

Might insure the third-eldest cat, but might just leave it at one. It would be interesting to see if we got the promo for insuring him separately?

I'm a complete advocate of pet insurance. My vet talked me into it a few years ago...which has come in very handy after my dog was hit by a car on Xmas eve. Vet bills for this so far are around $19k...I've only had to pay the first $100. Figure I have got my money's worth.

People probably think I'm nuts paying so much but apart from the fact that I love my dog, at no point was it ever expected to cost so much. It was $3,500 and then another $2,500, then another $3,000 etc etc. Pity the folk in this situation with no insurance.
