We are going to my wife's family re-union in Ottawa in August 2016. This is her very distant German family roots - Malacca via Singapore courtesy of the Dutch East India Company. There was German diaspora to Canada like that to the Barossa.
Because of our age and my size - both height and width we do not intend to do this trip in economy - nearly 24 hours flying time. Our last two trips to Europe from Perth,2011 & 2013, were on SQ using the A380 from Sin to CDG were OK as we could pay for the economy exit row seats which were fine - especially upstairs. Obviously, not an option on this trip.
Excluding Business Class unfortunately, the most reasonable option I see is to opt for PE on Cathay. The advantages are that it means only 1 stop, all flights on the same airline and a reasonable level of comfort - I hope as I haven't flown them before.
Alternatives are QF & NZ - but each is longer and involve at least 2 stops and requires flying with an US or Canadian airline, without PE, for a leg. Emirates would be an option but it is also a longer flight and of course has no PE. Because the re-union is in the height of the tourist season in Canada all fares will be at their peak.
Has anyone any alternate suggestions to Cathay?
