Hi all.

This question is primarily regarding stopovers.

I want to fly Perth to Brisbane QF Business in March next year. I find that a return journey to Auckland via the east coast is cheaper than a return journey to the east coast. This was a surprise to me but I'm sure that it may be old news to many.

Can I book a return trip to Auckland and fly Per - Mel/Syd - Akl - Bne and have a stopover in BNE being the the half way point of the 'return' trip in Perth. Then at the later date complete the return trip to Perth?

Or is the reverse better and chose a suitable route and complete the stopover on the outbound journey and return to Perth via Auckland?

Business Flex in both directions?

I know it'll probably be a long slog but the benefits for me:
1. Cheaper J class option - (normally travel Y)
2. Gets me over the line to keep WP (looking at falling short currently)
3. Chance for an F lounge experience (rare international travel)

Thanks all in advance.

Without having looked into the specifics of your question, I would expect that the most amount of time you'd be able to stop in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne without the cost skyrocketing is 24 hours.

You could however book PER-AKL-PER and AKL-BNE-AKL on separate tickets and stop in Brisbane as long as you like.

Doing one ways will make it too expensive, when it concerns PER to MEL to link to NZ.
Try on the QF booking website.
Doing a return, PER - MEL - AKL is cheap in discJ/sale J, but when you price it as a one way, PER - MEL - AKL, with a plan to come back AKL - BNE on a separate PNR, the price jumps.
Maybe call QF telephone sales to see if they can price it for you, giving them your route.
I priced it as a return, it was quite cheap, but when I priced it as one way, $$$$$$.

Another thought... EK J/F (booked with Qantas) ex AKL is often not too expensive. ;)
