Perth Qantas lounge

I've just return from KTA trip on VA as a VA PB. This was a leisure trip to visit some friends who live there.

Observations:
* VA flights in both directions were pretty full.

On Friday I flew QF1000 up to KTA and QF1001 straight back. QF1000 was virtually empty - I was the only one in J, and the load was only a little better going back to Perth.

The Lounge was still pretty crowded and noisy in PER though.

Had a phone call from the Qantas Perth airport manager today regarding a survery I filled out, basically outlining the fact that Im fed up & alot of other people are of no J lounge being in Perth. He appreciated my comments & assured me they are working on something, basically mid 2014 Qantas will have full control of T3 (once VA bugger off) & they will utilise VA's lounge. I asked if all mining flight would fly out of T3, he indicated that all the KTA flights would be out of T3 mid next year & I assume alot of other destinations out of T3 aswell.

I would also like to assume talking with him, that T4 would be basically be everything but mining flights.

I personally think once QF have T3 & T4, that no flouro attire should be allowed in the J lounge (if they have a J lounge at some point, which I really hope they do)

Sorry, but that attitude annoys the cough out of me. I'm not some loud and noisy tradie doing FIFO, but I consider myself a business traveller as I do work as a consultant and do need to occasionally visit mine sites around the world. Which requires me to sometimes fly in hi-viz so that I can hit the ground running when I arrive. Even some company CEO's fly out to site in hi-viz. Are you suggesting they shouldn't be allowed in the hypothetical J lounge either?

Honestly, I find drunken idiots going on holidays and families with screaming kids who can't be controlled to be far more of an annoyance in the existing lounge. But maybe that's just me and the fact I'm usually in and out of the domestic terminal on red-eye flights.

So in other words, genuine business travellers, travelling on business class fares, shouldn't be allowed in the business class lounge? Because they're wearing hi-viz?

Yes, thats my opinion, there should be a dress code,particularly if there is a "FIFO Lounge & Terminal" which would be T3.

I guess you could try, But all im saying is if there is a dedicated lounge for all the FIFO workers who chose to wear the flouro gear, then they should use the lounge that has been specifically provided to them.

And all I'm saying is that not everyone flying out to a mine site on those flights is a FIFO worker and there are usually senior executives or mining industry consultants on those flights as well. While you might not consider the senior executives or industry consultants to be "business travellers" for the purposes of using the "business" lounge, I'm pretty sure the stink we would kick up about not being allowed access would probably change the situation quick smart considering we're usually the ones paying top dollar for last minute airfares.

Anyway, your opinion is your opinion. I just think it's horribly misguided.

By chance are you referring to the terminal over near the International terminal? If so bit tough to use it when you're flying out of QF Domestic.

I'll be flying out of the Q domestic next Monday to PBO in full Hi Vis splendour for an overnight at a mine near Tom Price, may I use your lounge please?

No, that is T2

Oh ofcourse you can use it, as there is no other QF lounge to use.

Last Sunday, a group of FIFO where ask by QF club staff to be quieter while enjoying a few beers and watching the AFL.

They fully co-operated.

They are no different to anybody else who's employer pays for their flights, they deserve the same benefits and recognition. Completely changing how you view people based on the clothes they wear for work is just makes you a snobby a55hole. Thats not what im saying at all. Just if there is a lounge for FIFO people then they should use that over another lounge. Call me a snobby asshole all you want but the fact is that the lounges are over crowded and it needs to be addressed.

I completely agree. Some are so blinkered they simply see a suit as some sort of mask of respectability. Anyone can go buy a suit (ok, maybe not Zegna but Nino Cerutti or similar). I'm seen plenty of suits drunk on planes, snoring, head up against the exit row door with their seat reclined and hogging the armrest too. I've been 3-out-of-those-5-things myself contemporaneously as well. It's not a pretty picture.

That said, I'm sure we all agree all lounge users should enter with clean clothing and a minimum of bare flesh.
