The PER airport railway is two and a half years away but if Perth's suburban rail network is any indication, it will be very good when it opens:

Forrestfield Airport Link > Home

Sometimes at low cost I've caught TransPerth's local route bus via Belmont into George St in Perth's CBD. One needs to have a bit of spare time but it's economical.

Some general advice - I have posted an 'eight hours in perth' reply to another thread somewhere, but can't seem to find it easily.

• Easiest way to the city is an uber or ola for around $30 or a taxi for $35-40. Rideshares take about 10 minutes from when you order them - I generally do just after I get my bag (domestic) to reduce wasted time while walking to the ranks just outside the arrival halls
• If you're only in town one or two days, and are not doing anything outside of the CBD or areas accessible by train (Fremantle, Joondalup, Mandurah); you will probably be better off without renting a car & paying for parking at your hotel.
• If you want to do anything outside of major train routes (Swan Valley, Hillarys boat harbour), or are staying outside the CBD, you are better off renting a car.

For anyone with a daytime layover of more than seven hours, or staying overnight, heading to King's Park can be a very good way of rejuvenating.

It's subjective but surely these must be Australia's leading public gardens? A true showcase for Western Australia's amazing botanical range.
