Anyone experienced or flown direct from Perth to Auckland QF 111? What plane will be used, they say the A330, any chance it will be the new config with new J seats? Thanks in advance.

They generally use an older international configuration A330-200 for this service, with Skybed Mark I seats (angle-flat). Full international service provided.

There is of course a chance that on a given day they'll use a plane with the new J suites. What dates are you looking at?

FWIW, this is one of the best routes to redeem AA miles in business class - 17,500 miles one-way. Australia and NZ are deemed South Pacific and this represents one of the furthest distances for travel within South Pacific. Using the current AA points promo, this works out to about ~$500 AUD ticketed.

AKL-PER-BME is even better

Sure, but who wants to go to Broome among all those dirty dirty FIFOs!???

I don't think Broome is a mining town. Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman definitely, but not Broome.

Last time I went to Broome it was a fantastic trip. I loved Cable Beach.

Broome is a mining town, but not to the same level as the others. My return flight 3-4 weeks ago was 20% fifo. Believe gas is the major mining task in the area. The Broome mayor said on the radio about 12 months ago they were going to approach the miners and have their staff wear casual wear rather than fluros, to protect the tourism business

Are you sure about the distance, or is that via the South Pole or something more exotic?..

Fortunately the 17500 miles is AA "currency" not distance traveled, so a deduction from your FF account balance.

Happy wandering

Fred

PS English grammar is soooo much fun...

Having trouble replying, being told not enough characters, but thanks for the heads up, that does indeed make it one of the best redemptions..

Perhaps some bad news for anyone booked on QF111 or QF112 over the next few weeks/months. So far this month the PER-AKL flights have all been operated by either VH-EBM or VH-EBN. These are both domestic configured A330s with standard recliner seats in Business, which is in a 2-2-2 configuration. Not exactly an international product, and a change from previous years.

Could be disappointing if you've paid full price for J expecting a better product.

I guess you could put that in the same basket as the only other international flight they operate out of Perth, once daily to Singapore on a 737..
