We are at the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, Thailand at the moment, and can't fault the place.

But an odd thing happened when we checked in. The lady took us to our Delux Room with enclosed balcony, that we'd booked through Luxury Escapes. Then my wife and I looked out the window at other rooms with open balconies, and knew this wasn't going to work for us.

So I said to my wife that I'd go and see what it would cost to get an upgrade to a room with an open balcony. The lady at the reception looked at me kind of oddly, said that yes I could have the room I wanted with an open balcony after she he showed me what it was like - but that I would have to sign a piece of paper saying that it was me who had requested a DOWNGRADE to a standard room, so that the resort wouldn't get into strife with Luxury Escapes.

So our Standard room isn't as luxurious as the Delux room, and the air-conditioned internal area is smaller than that of the room we had booked - but we love our open balcony. We spend two thirds of our time on it, when hanging around our room not sleeping. My wife is bird spotting with binoculars. And when she goes to sleep at night I have somewhere to go and muck around with my smart phone till I finally get sleepy (I sleep a lot less than my wife). The last place we would want to be in is the Delux room.

And when we look around, we can't see anyone else sitting in open balconies enjoying the view, and the heat with the over head fans, the way we are doing. We didn't leave cold, miserable Melbourne to stay in a cold airconditioned room most of the time. But it appears that most other visitors here have a different perception of what would constitute Delux versus Standard accommodation for them.
Regards,
Renato
