No,didn't see any. I can't recall any mention by the commentators. If there was a downside to being in Ice, it was the PA in the front cabin was unclear and low volume. It was OK with headphones on - but moving around so much meant that was impractical. I must confess that I sort of switched off to the commentary without worrying about it. They did try to fix the volume/clarity in Ice but I did notice that it was much clearer in the main J cabin.

There was a lot of chat going on among the pax and I was not aware of any comments about wildlife.

I got talking on the way home to the retired Antarctic Division glaciologist who was one of the experts. He made no mention of wildlife but did make the comment that trips from the E coast will see mountainous landscapes that the PER trip cannot reach. However, his personal opinion was that the part of Antarctica we traversed is more 'true Antarctica' to him. Take that comment as you will.

Talking to the tour director about half way through, he was saying they rate each one on a 1-10 scale. At that stage they were putting our day at a good 8. Of course, the most nerve-wracking thing is worrying whether cloud will spoil it. On the way down, about the latter third was complete cloud cover. My friend was starting to get a little concerned but then Casey came on the satphone with the news the sky was clear there. Relief!

Talking to the official camera guy in the terminal early in the morning, he was saying he's done 35 trips and a handful have been clouded out.

Just a pocket one - a Sony DSC-HX90V 30x optical zoom. It was it first outing, which may not have been the best idea. I had an equivalent Lumix (DMC-TZ60) that had a few characteristics that bugged me. Rooflyer has used a Sony for some time and he recently gave me the heads-up that there was a very good deal on the Sony that he and Buzzard had used, so I decided to give it a go. The Sony is just a little more compact than the Lumix.

I'm very much keep the thing on full auto, just point in the general direction and hope for the best type of photographer.

Should we try to tow an iceberg up to Fremantle sometime? It seemed as crazy as getting water down from the north west as some thought it would be down hill.
