I just got back from Sydney - first time using in domestic using my Qantas Club.

I have to say I was utterly appalled at the way people act like total pigs in the QC lounges. Absolutely disgusting - cookies crumbled all over chairs, newspapers thrown everywhere, plates of food just left all about the place, food and serviettes just dropped on the floor and left there.

The ladies that were cleaning up couldn't get around quick enough - I just can't believe people act like this?! And it wasn't that QC didn't have enough staff or anything - it was just that people don't know how to behave in a half human manner.

I have to say though the service at both lounges was fantastic and the snacks were delish and ample room for me to enjoy the surrounds - it is just a shame about the people that USE them.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Maybe a bonus should come with QC membership for free etiquette lessons.

Are you certain you were in the Qantas Club lounge and not in my home at the time? Sounds very similar  .

It does sound particularly bad. Normally I find that the staff take my plate/napkin away a little too quickly...

I havent found it that bad. I do expect people to leave plates and napkins + empty bottles at the little tables where they sit. There isnt an obvious place to dump things.

I think people dumping things on the floor is a little shocking - maybe a corporate team building trip was just starting and the team were warming up in the QP...

I have noticed that some people do not have any manners. A reflection of how they behave at home?

The one I hate the most is when they grab food with their fingers or using a spoon or fork that they have been eating with.

The plates left everywhere is pretty standard for the QP, and seems to be the way things are expected by Qantas!!

You should have seen the weird looks I originally got from the staffers when I asked where to put dirty plates when I first visited. Hmmm. Maybe they just enjoy cleaning up after people.

Agree some people are pigs, but that is life unfortunately.

I think it has more to do with a sense of entitlement. I was in an F lounge at SFO recently, and a young couple were making dreadful pigs of themselves - getting lashed on the free booze and hooting and giggling, and it looked like the situation was going to deteriorate into a food-fight.

Fortunately one of the Lounge crew came over to the table and asked them to calm down, which they did, but only after the female of the pair said (loudly) "Well at 12-thousand dollars a ticket, we should be able to be as noisy as we want".

And that about sums it up.

I guess that they didnt realise that other people also paid 12k for a ticket and wanted to enjoy their time as well...

It isn't just in the lounges. I was flying J to lax a couple of weeks ago and two men who boasted loudly that they had been upgraded spent the flight getting totally drunk. It was a 2 class 747 and they treated the magazine stand in the centre of the downstairs cabin as a bar. They spilt drinks over it and into the aisles.
I was suprised that the cabin crew kept serving then alcohol I thought qantas had a policy of not serving alcohol to passengers who were already intoxicated.
It was impossible to sleep with their loud talk full of profanities. They may not have been paying to be in J and enjoyed having a party but for someone like myself who had paid to be there with the hope of some sleep it was very annoying.

Why didnt you front them? People only act like d--kheads if others let them get away with it.

Oh good, it's not just me then. Though I think it was my poor attempt at stacking a few plates, knives etc on the one table that got me the odd look. Followed by a slightly all knowing "Thanks sir. Please let us do that for you next time."
Horses for courses I guess.

I should add that anyone who "double dips" or reuses cutlery they sucked on to repick items are one of the lowest of low in my opinion.

Please transfer sauce to your receptacle where you can double dip all you like. Please also use the utensils provided, not your previously used forks/spoons.

I don't want your germs swimming in my tomato sauce. Nor do Iwant your cutlery swirled around the coleslaw I am about to use.

(There are occasions where I don't mind fingers grabbing food... but most of the time I prefer lots of hygiene around the food I'm about to eat).

Yes QF should not serve intoxicated passengers, yet FA's on some flights seem hell-bent on getting passengers drunk. Most just continue to serve drunk passengers. Sounds like these passengers were a menace and should have been directed by the FA's to return to their seats. Incidents like this should be reported to Qantas because the cabin staff were not performing their duties properly.

I always get weird looks when I return my empty glass to the bar when getting a refill - but then I do this all the time at pubs and clubs, so it isn't just at the QP that I do this.

Football teams are the worst I've seen at the QP.

A few weeks ago, about 12 members of a well known AFL team were in the QP at SYD, moving furniture around, flicking food at each other and getting as pi**ed as they could before the flight to MEL.

In September a huge group of NRL players were making right idiots of themselves in the QP - and were told by QF staff to settle down - or LEAVE ! (but only after several people complained about their behaviour)

I also hear two well known golfers were almost turfed out of the CL in Sydney a couple of weeks ago - for their use of profanity after a few too many Laphroaig's...

I'm always amazed how messy business class is as I'm exitting the plane. Probably because they feel they are somehow above everyone else :p

Its probably because you get given more stuff to make a mess with: amenity kits, newspapers, magazines, more food, more drink AND they are feeding you until almost landing so there isnt much time to clear up.

At some places they don't like the empties being brought back to the bar. Something about regulations for food handling and the bar staff not being supposed to handle dirty glasses at the same time as clean ones.

I do the same although it's mainly to remove the impression that I haven't emptied all those 17 wine glasses perched on the little table before the flight - it was the bunch sitting there before me!

Yep leave the experts to it!!

On the surface, whilst to have customers clear up plates, return them to the bar etc might make the job easier, if I were on staff at a Qantas Club if this sort of tidiness became the norm, I'd worry about my job being enhanced by Qantas management.
