Edit*** I found a seat on Qantas PE on a Tuesday, it's odd that when you search flexible dates it shows no seats, but when you choose a specific date there was a PE seat!! So it's all booked. VERY excited about it all now!

I was 'given' a Qantas PE Mel-JFK flight for my birthday in November as I'm planning a holiday at the same time. Thinking this was a fantastic gift from my brother and I only had to buy the return flight from LAX, I was shocked to find the prices for a one way PE fair was more than the return trip on VAustralia PE.

I'd really like to fly PE home as I'm a little large and the extra room would be nice, and am prepared to either pay for a Qantas flight and upgrade or use my points to buy the ticket out right.

However I can't seem to find an PE seats returning about Nov 24th. Not too set on that date, so a day either side is fine.

What are my options?
Cancel my current PE Mel-JFK and use the extra points (96,000) to upgrade a purchased fare both way?
Buy a oneway Qantas fare LAX-Mel and try and upgrade?
Use points for the whole LAX-Mel flight? (Prefer this - If I could find one!)
Is there anyway of getting a cheap VAustralia PE on way fare? ie book economy and try and upgrade later?

I made the STUPID mistake of looking at VAustralia fares return and getting excited about how cheap they were, and then after my brother booked the Mel-JFK flight was shattered to see that I'd be paying over $5000USD rather than $900AUD for the flight!!

I'm really confused!!!
