Hi all,

I am very new to this whole credit card points scheme. So I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to be asking this or if it's been asked a million times before. Been doing a lot of reading on here and other similar forums. Have recently got a few cards for my wife and I including the Amex velocity platinum, ANZ black and NAB velocity premium.

Anyway my question right now is that I need to spend $1500 on my NAB card and I have rates due of approx $1600. Was hoping to knock this card over with 1 transaction. Just wondering if these will be counted as government charges and therefore not get the bonus points? they use bpoint as the payment portal and charge a .5% credit card fee (Amex not accepted).

I called NAB anonymously and asked but the lady couldn't confirm exactly if they would count as government charges, she was erring on the side of they would though and thus wouldn't be valid for bonus points.

If they aren't going to count I will find another way to meet the spend. Just works nice and easily if it will actually work. And I can't afford to wait too long to see if the points get counted as a regular spend as I kind of need the 60,000 velocity points to be in my account by May for some J flights I want to book. So the sooner I make the spend the better.

cheers,

David

can i ask where you saw the NAB offer? i looked on their website but there's no mention of velocity points with spend on opening this card

I can't post links due to being too new.. But it is definitely under the NAB velocity rewards premium card page. 60,000 bonus velocity points. Apply by 30 April 2016 and spend $1500 on everyday purchases within 90 days.

Government charges refers to government fees and taxes levied on the account. It does not refer to purchases of government services.

Ok that's what I had thought but wasn't certain. So others have safely received points by paying for rates in the past? I'd also read that if transactions are processed as a bpay payment they wouldn't count as it would be treated as a cash advance and not a purchase? I don't think that would apply in this case as they are using bpoint, not BPay and they are charging a credit card surcharge. Thanks for your help so far.
