paying online with points and CC

Hello

I am not really a FF but I have 18300 Krisflyer points. I would like to use these to book a return flight to Rome in April. when I get to the online page where I tick that I wish to use these points to pay for part of fare it reclculates as the same fare ~$1900 plus some points. I,ve forgotten how many so it appears ther is no saving.

Also could you please tell me how long the points are valid for? They were accrued in April 2014.

18,300 K points will probably get you from SYD to BNE in cattle class.

Oh no. So that is why the price is the same, even a few dollars more than if I don't use KF points. so it's not really worth accruing points if you only fly OS very couple of years. Maybe I should transfer to Velocity?

Nope, not worth it unfortunately ... If you aren't going to use your KF points before they expire you should transfer them to Velocity. Maybe you can earn more points there via credit card spend in Aus and then eventually get a reward flight in the future!
