Hi all

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, i have a query which i hope somebody might be able to answer.

Yesterday i checked in for a perth-Melbourne flight for today..
After checkin it has seperated me and my wife.. i have tried to change the seats to put us togther, but everytime i do it, it defaults back to the original seats.

I was wondering why qantas would split people who are on the same booking, i can only think it is cause my wife uses her maiden name when booking...

Thanks in advance

Name is irrelevant if the bookings are linked IME.

I agree. There must be something else to it. Are you actually on the same ticket? Does she have different status and thus maybe has seat options unavailable to you?

Weird. This is a time I would do the hideous, and actually call them :)

To save time on the phone, just speak to the staff at the airport. Just don't get there too late where they can't actually move anyone around.

I more than most hate having to phone, but if you wait until the airport it just dramatically increases the likelihood that some other poor bugger will suddenly find his seating hopes had been changed.

I'd rather waste time on phone to ensure it was sorted before getting to airport.

You'll struggle to get help.

If you have OLCI and the aircraft is under airport control (Within 24 hours) the call centre can't really intervene...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Has there been an aircraft change on a full flight resulting in the change?

Calling won't help at this stage.

Hi all

Just an update, i called qantas who said they couldn't do anything on the phone, that i should ask st the airport.

So when we got to the airport, they were able to fix it up.

Seems strange why it happened in the first place

Had you pre-allocated seats ahead of time via manage my booking on the QF website or did you leave it until OLCI?

I didn't pre-allocate my seats before check-in, I guess that could be the reason why they split us up.
However I usually don't and have never had it before..
I guess in the future I should select my seats earlier...

Doesn't always help. I pre selected J class seats for myself and elderly mother and we were separated at checkin. I didn't even realise as I'd pre selected. Nice lady in QP spotted and sorted.

My in laws were separated despite being on the same booking and qantas were I guess understandably not receptive to moving other passengers around. Turned out there were a couple of business passengers that were travelling together in the respective pair seats that proactively offered to swap when they realised they had split a couple.

I suppose when selecting a seat you'd try to get a empty seat next to you but that goes out the window if the cabin is full and it inadvertently blocks out actual couples from getting seats together.
