Passenger posted a Facebook rant about Jetstar the 'worst flight of her life'

I wonder if Travel insurance would cover an upgrade on the airline for say the next day or even another airline, provided it was ordered by a doctor.

Yes, I have been directly involved, straight to first class (even if it means changing airlines) because guess what, that's probably way cheaper than alternatives.

Re: TV reporter’s Jetstar nightmare (NOT!)

An over the top and untrue headline but it makes good copy.

And JetStar's response:

Frankly all I can say is well done to JetStar, No free upgrade for a whinging DYKWIA reporter from the sticks who probably shouldn't have been flying. She got an empty seat beside her and an upfront seat others have to pay for so what else does she want?

Agreed. She is entitled to an upgrade when she pays for it... if the injury was that bad, I'd assume travel insurance would cover the J seat.

Re: TV reporter’s Jetstar nightmare (NOT!)

A Snapped Achilles tendon I have heard are painful but she was with a LCC. She could have paid or brought her own pillows. She should be thankful they gave her a whole row.

Getting sick and tired of these passenger gripes getting air time. Yes some seats don't have a window. It's the same for aircraft operated by Qantas, Virgin Australia and lots of other airlines. If you want a particular seat, pay for it. If you choose not to, then so be it.

Same applies to the lady who snapped her Achilles. Sorry that she was injured, but if she wanted/needed a business class seat to travel, she should have paid for it. The airline doesn't owe her anything. If you fly low cost and want extras, you pay for them, simple. If you don't take out travel insurance to cover the situation where you injure yourself and need extra care or a bigger seat to get home, then so be it.

If the baggage rules state you get to take a number of 23kg bags but you throw 25kg into the one bag, it's a fail by you, not the airline that is simply applying its rules.

If you fall 10 credits, or maybe 1 sector, short of requalifying for status, that's your fault. The thresholds are published, either achieve them or don't requalify. Take responsibility for yourself, and stop expecting something for almost getting there but not quite. Perhaps airlines should start handing out status encouragement awards instead, much like the trophies average kids in junior sport receive so they get to feel special too even though they aren't quite good enough to win a real award.

It seems a lot of people expect airlines to make them the exception. Rules are rules, and business is business. My wish for 2016 (alongside winning lotto numbers and unlimited F class travel on SQ) is for people to stop complaining when airlines consistently apply their rules as published rather than treating them as an exception to those rules.

Ok I'm getting off my soapbox now. Happy 2016 everyone!
Why don't you say what you really mean :?:

Re: TV reporter’s Jetstar nightmare (NOT!)

I broke my leg while on a trip and had to return home on a domestic flight. Qantas met me at the kerb, wheeled me to the J lounge and put me in a nice J seat on the plane. Mind you I was P1 at the time. I didn't expect that treatment and was very appreciative.

Re: TV reporter’s Jetstar nightmare (NOT!)

This is either lazy journalism (everyone is on holidays so go to the airlines facebook pages for a story) or she has used her friends in the media to get the story out there.........which is a non story.

Everyone else has already said what has to be said. I am getting sick of "news" relating to airlines - and I don't think a footballers wedding should be in the TV news either (privacy for one).

Yep definitely slow time of year when anything can and will get published.

It will backfire on her later career wise when she tries to climb the ladder.

All those Rabbitoh supporters may disagree as they love their Sammy Burgess. :sly:

I tore all the ligaments in my left ankle (severe lateral inversion) several years back whilst on a shoot for a (small) cruise company in Fiji. Had to spend 3 days at sea before I headed home to ADL, possibly the most excruciating 3 days I've had to endure.

Closest I got to an upgrade was being put on a direct flight from BNE-ADL instead of the original NAN-BNE-SYD-ADL (and being wheeled into the lounges). I was WP at the time, but at no stage did I ever expect to be upgraded to J - I had to wear it, as painful as it was.

Accidents happen all the time, but expecting an airline to upgrade you because of one, is OTT - suck it up and pay for it yourself if you want to ensure comfort all the way home and quit bagging an airline simply because you didn't get your own way.

As others have said - slow (no) news day, but what can you expect at this time of the year? Oh wait, it's the same every day of the year! Why let Christmas stand in the way of a beat-up, "Woe-is-me" regurgitated story??

Look at the SMH Facebook page and the comments from the readers - safe to say that if she was after sympathy, it backfired badly.

Re: TV reporter’s Jetstar nightmare (NOT!)

Whilst I think the WIN reporter took a lot for granted, the story nonetheless shows just how bad Jetstar is.

Why, because they were thoughtful enough to move other passengers in order to give her a row to herself?

I'm sorry. My impression was it was better service than I would have expected.Upfront seats, empty seat to put her leg up.For a LCC that was very reasonable. Can you tell me which airline would upgrade you to J in these cicumstances?
The cost of the comfort pack is prominently displayed on the booking page.
And finally how was JQ to blame for her injury? If you want to go OS and involve yourself in activities where there is the possibility of injury then you should have travel insurance.

You pay for a budget airline, you get a budget airline's service.

How is this news?

More to the point, why was it in Business Insider? Reaks of reporter abuse of position to me. Most of us just get to whine here on AFF.....these lot get their whine published in a newspaper.......because they're "reporters"? She states she flies a lot with JQ..........doesn't that mean she knows what to expect and chooses to do so regardless?

It wasn't on Business Insider. That story was the "Windowless seat". The news reporters story was on News Ltd . I also read elsewhere that she's had a sideswipe at them for publishing it. I genuinely think she was having a rant about the upgrade failure as a private individual without any regard for the consequences of a public post on Facebook.

I don't see that at all in this instance. Perhaps you could expand on your reasoning?

I was referring to the "windowless seat" article. The cruciate ligament story is more ridiculous than the windowless seat. My wife tore her cruciate ligament in a skiing fall (wiped out by a snow boarder in fact) and she got business class in the front seat of my Ford Transit for the trip home........I didn't read about that in a newspaper but my goodness......didn't I hear about it all the way home!

Is "Nat Pelech" a news reporter also? "Jodi Lee" who tore her Achilles' tendon is but I couldn't find any info that the windowless seat occupant was connected with the media.
