Passenger overreacts to "Merry Christmas"

I mean really, it's just a friendly greeting. And in many ways it's not really even a religious holiday for many that do celebrate it as a time to get together with friends and family.

and that is why I don't like the "holiday". Extra/more annoying customers is one thing. Being forced to spend time with the family is quite another. :-|

We had 2 flights on Christmas day and I will say, it seemed that everyone (passengers) were overwhelmingly miserable.

Which might explain why hubby and I, in our stupid christmas hats, handing out boxes of Lindt chocs to staff wherever we went, was greeted with smiles and happy welcomes and we were pulled out of security line and whisked through a just opened one (Santa first they said) and we got an extra Christmas snacks onboard.

I would have thought if there is one day to put a stupid hat on and fake being happy until you believe it, its Christmas.

Whilst Christmas is not everyone's cup of tea, there is no need to spoil it for everyone else and carry on like the grinch...

Nobody can make you spend time with family... ;)

No, but Mrs Harvyk can make some quite compelling arguments :D

[general rant]
Quite frankly, if you don't care for xmas, fine, but don't go causing a ruckus if someone around you makes the absolutely unforgivable mistake of wishing you a merry / happy one.

If you want to wish me a happy "insert name of your own religious festival here", my response will be simply "thank you, and same back to you :)"

If we all had just a little more tolerance of other peoples beliefs, and stop going off half coughed at things which are not an affront to our own beliefs, this world would be a much nicer place.

screw chistmas. Where's my festivus greeting?
I too am infuriated with all things related to religious holidays. So much so, i'm demanding these in airports in lieu of 'Christmas Trees'

Good on AA and they certainly don't need to comment to the media, but sounds I have the feeling the passenger was under some pressure from elsewhere and this was the final straw.

Rule one when someone like this says something you don't like, sure say something concise and make your point, then leave the topic alone.

I stopped flying Qantas on my (then) regular Christmas Day flight to the UK several years mainly because I couldn't stand the male cabin crew poncing up and down the aisle wearing Santa Claus hats, and saying "Ho, Ho. Ho!" I found I didn't mind the SQ crew so much, even when they offered me "char-kai" (i.e. turkey) on two successive flights.

I am not particularly religious but I still put a tree up in my shop, wish my customers including Muslims a Merry Christmas. To this day never had a complaint. Even some of my Muslim customers wish me a Merry Christmas.
To me Christmas represents spending time with loved ones, the joy of kids unwrapping their gifts and a time of good will to each other.
Their is a story from WW1 IIRC where soldiers from both sides put down their weapons and celebrated Christmas together on the front line.
OK they may have resumed killing each other the next day but at least they celebrated Christmas.

I was in Morocoo - an overwhelmingly Muslim country - a few weeks ago. There were Christmas trees and lights in the streets of Marrakech and shops, at least in the city centre, were having Christmas sales.

Equally just back from KL which is 60+% Islam, 20+% Buddhist and they malls are more into Xmas than in Australia - great Boxing day sales as well

Some examples.

That's why I don't like Christmas, Easter or any other "religious" holiday. The "requirement" to spend time with so called "loved ones".
These holidays are just another day stuck with the annoying morons otherwise known as "family" while reminding me all my friends are 14+ hours flight away on another continent.
