Hi all,

I'm researching some flights to Ireland next year and I have found a couple of interesting entries in the Etihad fare breakdown... eg. This one caught my eye:

'AUD55.00 - Passenger Movement Charge (PMC) Christmas Island (AU)'

It is charged per pax each sector SYD-AUH and return. Do we pay for simply flying 'over' Christmas Island ? (I sure hope we don't have to divert there!). Good on the WA govt (or Christmas Island Administration) drumming up some taxes for themselves but this seems a bit steep ?

I also note that Etihad charges a part-fare for an infant under 2 whereas other carries do not. The Eithad infant fare is about 11% of the adult fare.

Just an incorrect name for a tax that definitely applies.

AU is the Passenger Movement Charge (PMC). Is applicable per passenger (with a lot of exemptions, eg age <12 , in transit etc) for International Departures ex-Australia (or Christmas Island). It is $55, and is charged by the federal government.

On international flights it's the norm to charge for an infant, circa 10% (exactly 10% for QF plus taxes and fuel fines).
