Partner AA booking into USA from Central America booking issue

I'm hoping to use QF points to book a flight from SJO, San Jose, Costa Rica to PNS, Pensacola, United States via American Airlines.

Using the qantas website I get a "We currently don’t offer flights between those cities. Try choosing a different departure or arrival location." message.

However if I reverse the direction (ie PNS to SJO) the search works.

Does this mean I cannot redeem.flights coming into the USA, only departing the USA? Or it this a website limitation requiring a book booking?

You just need to call to book the flights

Use the PNS-SJO (return - any random date outbound prior to your return) to check availability and call to book. They should waive the booking fee since you can’t DIY.

You should also be able to do something like MEL-SYD and SJO-PNS on the multi-city search to check flights if there’s limited PNS-SJO seats.
