Can anyone give me a few recommendations for Paris Hotel, i have $600 worth of Amex Travel Credit Expiring very shortly, Im travelling Feb 2024
have been to paris once before, loved it. havent decided how long im staying there but definitely at least a week,
however Paris hotels i believe arent cheap, so im thinking of booking 3-4 nights using this amex credit

any recommendations on good value, thats easily accessible without using taxis/ubers

Travelling Solo, possibly couple, arriving CDG
the nicer hotel, the better, not too fussy, just dont want a shoebox or a ghetto

Which area of Paris are you thinking of staying? There are a lot of options.
hmm, i havent really thought of that either :)

I guess central and conveneient to the train would be a priority,
do you have any suggestions? sorry for being vague

If you stay intra muros (ie. within the 20 arrondissements proper) you'll be within a couple of hundred metres of a metro station at all times, so that's the "easily accessible" part covered. Paris is pretty safe generally, but I personally don't feel comfortable walking in the 10th or 19th arrondissements at night (I'd be interested to hear other people's views) so maybe avoid them given your "ghetto" comment -- though they're perfectly safe in daylight.

The problem is, anywhere else really will be a shoebox for $100-$200/night. But I've discovered the odd hidden jewel or extra-special price on AmEx travel in the past, so you might get lucky.

I’ve stayed at MotelOne in Amsterdam… it’s Novotel equivalent but no tea/coffee in the room. They have a branch in Paris. You only used to be able to book through their website but I see aggregators are now offering it too.

The quality is really good.

Just go to an aggregator like Booking.com and put in a search area and sort from cheapest to see what you get and then check other websites for price comparison
Thanks! It looks like this thread had changed to a which area should i stay thread

The Amex travel booking site gives you the option to put apartment in as a filter. That would be my tactic to get a decent sized room. Random dates in Feb 24 showed a few options without totally blowing the budget

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Years ago I booked in that price range and the hotels were shocking. One had artificial carpets that stuck to your feet and the fresh smell of guiilaise ( french cigarettes) . I used to put on my shoes to go into the bathroom or jump from the bed. The one hotel‘s bathroom was so small that the you could use all three facilities ( shower, basin, toilet) at once without moving. At the price point it maybe better value to look at youth hostels, apartments or Airbnb for a room.

I can imagine!

But the hotel I recommended above, MotelOne, Novotel 4* equivalent for €89 a night means the days of nylon - or youth hostels - should be over :)

(doesn’t appear bookings are open yet for 2024 though, so maybe not a help to the OP wanting to use a credit)

thanks everyone! was a bit surprised by some of the sizes of the rooms, didnt know 9-12sqm room existed

had a look at apartments as well, very close to booking novotel paris 20 for $210 per night, at 18sqm,
if i was just literally just sleeping in it after flying, id probably go one of the $140 per night 12sqm rooms

i wasnt expecting it to be cheap, but I had the image in my mind that like for like, it would be cheaper than melbourne!

I havent been to Paris for quite some time but my memory is of the hotel rooms being the smallest of any european city I have ever visited, and the only other place with similar tiny rooms was Montreal.

In UK and Europe when you book a room for one you often end up with a shoebox and a single bed, always book a double even if there is just you; as the single rooms tend to have no windows or just a view of a nearby wall.

yeah i always book double if i can, and I didnt know montreal was even smaller!

i dont stay in hotels within australia much, however the business hotel i stayed in japan was about 9sqm and 6000yen and I knew i had experienced the smallest in the world as a hotel

I stayed in a capsule hotel which was kind of fun, and has its place too

Well US and rest of Canada tend to have fairly spacious rooms no matter whether the hotel is cheap & cheerful or Luxury. but in Montreal I had to sleep with my suitcase on the end of my single bed (I was in a twin room with a friend), so that we could open the door to the ensuite which was the size of a small wardrobe and where you could as other have said take a shower, use the toilet and the basin all without having to stretch.
