Hello,

I recently booked tickets from Australia on the MH website for MH J tickets return from BKK to HKG (via KUL) in March.

I immediately received my "Travel Itinerary Receipt" via email and didn't pay too much attention to the booking reference, but I now see that it is only five alpha-numeric characters, so it's not valid for things like checkmytrip, and I can't see any way to check the booking online (a search here shows that this is not uncommon, or at least it wasn't a couple of years ago).

The itinerary says I need to present photo ID and the original credit card used for the booking when I check in, which is fine, but now that I've noticed the booking reference doesn't actually look like I had expected, I'm just wondering whether I need to somehow get some sort of e-ticket or printed ticket from Malaysia Airlines before I rock up at the BKK check-in desk, or is it going to be good enough to just take a printout of the emailed "Travel Itinerary Receipt", showing the flight numbers, five-character reference, and selected seats, together with my passport and credit card?

I'm assuming it will be fine as is, but I worry about these things when I've not done them before ... .

Actually, now that I think about it, it would be even better if I could do online check in for my MH BKK -> KUL -> HKG flight from BNE before I leave for BKK on another airline the previous day. Is this possible? The website doesn't seem to say no, but I feel it may be hoping for too much!

Thank you,

mrpooky.

MH uses a 5 character PNR, so not sure why you are stressing? Have you used the MMB function on the MH site? Sites like Checkmytrip and viewtrip are only compatible with bookings made using the relevant GDS.

I had been unable to find a 'manage my booking' link, but I did find it eventually under Plan -> Book -> Manage my Booking -> Retrieve your Booking Now -> Retrieve Booking (phew!). Thank you.

However, now I'm stressing even more:

"We are unable to process your booking online. Please contact our call center at: Tel. 1 300 88 3000 (within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia)."

The whole on-line experience with MH is terrible.

Just call them to confirm everything.

However you will probably be able to check-in on-line 48 hours before departure.

I was at MH check-in at BKK the other day. Check-in opened about 2:45 before departure. And no-one wanted to see the e-ticket or the credit card. That doesn't mean you should not have both, just in case!

Oh and remember, all MH flights out of BKK are now dry, even in business class!

It often works on the phone app.
MH site is flaky, you'll be fine with a passport and nothing more. Maybe the cc but I've never been asked
