Do China Southern offer paid upgrades when you check-in at the airport? Will be flying them for the very first time in March next year. If so, how much was the cost? My itinerary involves departing SYD to PEK via CAN and returning from SHA via CAN.
Thanks in advance.

I'm also interested if this is possible. I'm off on a medical mission to Hanoi and am flying China Southern on Jan 14th. I've read somewhere that it is possible but not sure! Anyone have experience with this?

Apparently they do offer upgrades, at least on some flights. But the 'offer' may not occur until on board (with an announcement by the cabin crew inviting people to pay for an upgrade). Other reports suggest upgrades can sometimes be done at check-in.

On board upgrade experience (about 2/3rds of the way down this trip report): Review: 䏭国嗿–¹èˆªç©º – China Southern Airlines, Guangzhou to Sydney, Airbus A380, Economy Class (Part 1) | FreakyFlier.com

Check-in upgrade (post #9 - although the price seems to be about the same you would have paid for premium economy anyway): https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Show...na_Southern_Airlines-Guangzhou_Guangdong.html

I flew CZ last year with my dad, who was, unlike me, audacious enough to ask about an upgrade in the hope of scoring an op-up during one of our transits - the response he got back was that we could get an upgrade to J/Y+, but it would cost about what you'd expect to have booked it to begin with, i.e. too much for our budget... so off we went to the back of an almost-full Y cabin :(

Anyway, moral of the story is they were offering paid upgrades on request...

Old man B just flew back on CZ in J and they definitely made an announcement on board and suddenly the previously empty seat next to him was suddenly filled and a credit card was swiped on board. I don't know how much it was though.
