Just wondering if anyone has any idea what routes are paid upgrades offered?? I was offered one last year at LHR for £499 IIRC from Y+ to J at the airport check-in.

It's not common on many routes, although the one you mention has been observed.

Generally, QF rely on selling their cabins at full price. There's a reason they're renowned for their amazing yield management :)

Have had 3 paid upgrades offers (all taken) from Y+ > J all on BA SIN - LHR and all were offered by the SIN QF/BA lounge reception staff at approx $700 SGD. (Y+ SC/FF points applied).

Possibly these are slightly different to paid upgrades on Qantas, being BA and all.

BA frequently do paid upgrades. QF, don't as you say (OP asked about QF JBH so probably more relavent)

If this happens (as someone has paid for upgrade) how's the FFP works? Post the ones entitled by the original tix or the ones that upgraded? (i.e. Y+ or J)

You're paying for nothing more than the seat. You will still earn points based on your original fare class. This has always been the case.

For BA you receive the points and status for the upgraded cabin (assuming it was a paid ticket and paid upgrade) unless it was done onboard.

I am fairly sure that it didn't always work like that with the JQ paid upgrades when they lasted.

You shouldn't. If you did it was by mistake. Each time BA have offered it, I was made explicitly clear that I would only earn points and SCs for the original fare I paid for.

Were you on a BA flight number or QF codeshare? Paid upgrade on a paid ticket, BA flight number on BA metal definately will give the points/SCs for upgraded class.

The ticket is re-issued into the upgraded class.

Can't post a link till I have 10 posts.. But "paid-upgrades-airport-tier-points-miles" and "Clinic Thread - How Proactive Upgrades work" on FlyerTalk explains it. There were a few posts on here from memory too..

"BA special offer upgrade" and "BA upgrade earn Status Credits" on here.

I got offered to pay some cash for a flight to NAN to get a J class seat.

It was going to cost me an extra $1000 for the 3 of us.

I never asked about FF points

Not always at all, this will vary airline by airline and offer by offer. Some might even explicityly say you won't get it but you often end up receiving it.

Paid, BA flight from BOS to LHR, BA code, in Y+, offered upgrade to J.

Paid, BA flight from LHR to MIA, BA code, in Y+, offered upgrade to J.

Both check-in agents said "you will not receive the points for Club World, only World Traveller Plus".

It was made clear that it would not be re-issued as well (being a FF junky, I ask these things ;)). In fact one told me the only way I would earn J points is if they did re-issue it.

And the price was stupid ($800 USD and £600; definitely not worth the cash for that length of flight).
