Paid upgrade on QF ticketed flight...Possible?

Has anybody had any experience paying for an upgrade Y-J on QF ticketed EK flights? (AKL-MEL to be specific)

I emailed Emirates this morning if it was possible and their response was simply told to ask QF...
Not necessarily in a rush to put it through immediately, but more interested to see if it will be offered in the lead up or check in.
