New Australian-based airline Pacific Wings claims to have negotiated a favourable start-up capital arrangement as it revealed plans to fly to New Zealand and New Caledonia this year.

The airline, which filed an application with the International Air Services Commission on June 2, plans to start commercial operations using wet leased Boeing 737s from Our Airline by October.

It is seeking unlimited capacity on the Tasman route and 0.25 units of capacity between Australia and New Caledonia under the air services agreement with France.

The driving force behind the operation is former Our Airline chief executive, Geoffrey Bowmaker, who serves as a non-executive director.

In a statement to the IASC, Pacific Wings was at pains to spruik its viability, particularly after smaller carriers OzJet and SkyAirWorld collapsed earlier this year.
