OWCA Itinerary - Ramifications of MH going out of business?

Does anyone know what the ramifications would be to an existing OWCA Itinerary which includes some Malaysian Airlines operated sectors in the event that their occasionally predicted (fairly or not) business collapse was to actually occur?

I'm going to go on a limb here and guess "oneworld Circle Asia"...

Which airline's stock is the ticket issued on? Generally my guess is that you will be allowed to reroute using the remaining eligible carriers on sectors where MH was flying. I suppose you might be eligible for a refund.

It really depends on who (ie airline) booked the ticket.

When Mexicana disappeared quickly, AA handled my AA issued (award) tickets with MX segments without any problems. (Well one of the rescheduled flights went tech but that's not a ticketing problem)

There are some historic accounts of flights (and routes) being cancelled on xONEx fares where the issuing carrier simply finds alternatives even if adding the new arrangements violate the original ticket restrictions.

And QF has been reasonably agreeable when schedule changes have caused serious disruptions.

So - who issued your ticket?

I've had the same. In 2008 on an LONE4, last sector was to be QF NRT-MEL. QF pulled out of the route about 6 weeks after I booked. They rerouted me via SYD with an extra sector then would have been allowed.

If it's an invol reroute, they can and have broken the fare rules.
If MH issued the ticket, there would be issues. If another airline did, it would get sorted.

Alright...first OWCA isn't standard around here, but thanks for laying that out.

As for what would happen if MH kicked the bucket, my guess is that your sectors would be reworked to other applicable partners (e.g. Jetstar Asia) which would be set out by Qantas upon MH actually throwing in the towel. My guess is that any changes made immediately in this regard would not incur extra charges.

If your flight was to a destination not served by any other Qantas partner other than Malaysia Airlines (e.g. Kota Bharu), or if you are not happy with any routing alternatives, you would most likely be able to get a full refund of points and cash.

Thanks anat0l, I was hoping that the likely first response would be for Qantas to attempt a (no cost to me) workaround to get us over the hurdle.

There may be some small costs, e.g. differences in taxes/charges - hopefully not silly expensive. I'm not sure if it's just absorbed or you will be charged.

What you shouldn't be charged are change fees or fees for telephone assistance.

My prediction is I would guess that QF will "fix" your itinerary once the directive goes out that MH cannot operate your flight (i.e. the MH flight is removed from the system and your applicable sector effectively becomes "invalid"). Usually if you don't mind the fix then you do almost nothing; if not then you will have to call QF.
